Trust Issues & Jealousy

For men who want to stop overthinking, checking and doubting, and feel secure in their relationship again.

Your mind keeps looking for proof.

Trust issues are exhausting. Part of you wants to believe your partner; another part keeps scanning for signs that something is wrong. The checking and the questions bring a moment of relief, then the doubt comes back, often stronger, and the relationship starts to feel tense for both of you.

I'm Aditya Kumar, a counselling psychologist. I work with men to understand where the mistrust comes from, quieten the overthinking, and build a sense of security that doesn't depend on constant reassurance. This is part of my relationship work with men.

Does this sound familiar?

Reading into every message

A late reply, a short text, or who liked her post can send your mind spiralling.

Needing reassurance

Asking again and again whether she loves you or is being honest, and the relief never lasts.

Comparing yourself

Feeling threatened by exes, colleagues or friends, and worrying you're not enough.

Checking up

Looking at her phone, tracking where she is, or testing her, even though part of you knows it hurts the relationship.

Controlling without meaning to

Getting upset about who she meets or what she wears, and arguments that start from your fear.

Old hurt in a new relationship

Being cheated on or let down before, and carrying that suspicion into someone who hasn't done anything.

What we work on

  • Catching the spiral: CBT for the "what if" thoughts that build into suspicion
  • Riding out the urge: handling the pull to check, ask or test without acting on it
  • Roots of mistrust: past betrayals and patterns that shape how you see her now
  • Self-worth: feeling secure in yourself, not only in her reassurance
  • Talking about it: sharing your fears without accusations

Jealousy is usually fear in disguise

Underneath jealousy there's often a fear of being replaced, abandoned or not being enough. When those fears go unspoken, they come out as suspicion, control or anger.

If anxiety about the relationship is the bigger theme, see relationship anxiety. If your mistrust started after an affair, counselling after infidelity may fit better.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is jealousy normal in a relationship?
Some jealousy is a normal human feeling. It becomes a problem when it takes over your thoughts, leads to checking or controlling behaviour, or causes repeated conflict. That's the point where working on it helps.
Where do trust issues come from?
Often from past experiences: being cheated on, an unstable family environment, or relationships where you felt unwanted. Sometimes they come from anxiety or low self-worth. We look at what's driving yours, not just the behaviour.
What if she really has given me reasons not to trust her?
Then we work on that honestly too. Counselling can help you separate real warning signs from fear, communicate clearly about what happened, and decide what you need to feel safe in the relationship.
How do I stop checking her phone?
Checking brings short-term relief but makes anxiety stronger over time. We use CBT tools to ride out the urge, challenge the thoughts behind it, and build trust in a way that actually lasts.
Does my partner need to attend?
No. These are individual sessions. The work focuses on what's happening inside you and how you respond.
Are sessions online or in Bangalore?
Both: in person in Bangalore and online across India. Fees, including a student sliding scale, are on the booking page. See current fees →

Note: If anyone in the relationship is unsafe, or there is violence or threats, contact emergency services on 112. For emotional support, Tele-MANAS is free and 24/7 on 14416. Counselling is not a substitute for crisis support.
