Breakup Counselling for Men

For when it's over but your mind hasn't caught up yet. Individual sessions in Bangalore & online.

"I should be over this by now."

A lot of men go through breakups quietly. You keep going to work, tell friends you're fine, maybe go to the gym more, or stay out later. Inside, you might still be stuck on what happened, missing them, angry, or wondering what's wrong with you.

I'm Aditya Kumar, a counselling psychologist. I work one-on-one with men after breakups, separations, and divorce, helping you make sense of what happened, deal with the thoughts that keep pulling you back, and rebuild a life that feels like yours again. This is part of my relationship work with men.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Replaying everything

Going over conversations, what you should have said, or where it went wrong, again and again.

Checking on them

Their profile, their stories, who they're with. Knowing it hurts but not being able to stop.

Losing your sense of self

Not knowing who you are without them, or feeling like your plans and routines disappeared overnight.

Anger or bitterness

Feeling betrayed, resentful, or angry at them, at yourself, or at everyone, and not knowing where to put it.

Life feeling flat

Trouble sleeping, focusing at work, or enjoying things you used to, weeks or months after it ended.

Fear of the next one

Worrying you'll repeat the same patterns, or feeling unable to trust or date again.

What we work on

  • Making sense of it: what happened, what part was yours, and what wasn't
  • Breaking the loop: CBT tools for the overthinking, checking, and urge to reach out
  • Handling the waves: DBT skills for the moments when sadness or anger hits hard
  • Rebuilding your routine: sleep, work, friends, and things that are yours again
  • Understanding your patterns: so the next relationship doesn't repeat the last one

If talking about feelings doesn't come naturally, that's fine. We can use more structured or creative, art-based approaches instead.

Grief isn't only for loss by death

The end of a relationship is a real loss. You lose a person, a routine, a future you'd pictured, and sometimes friends or family ties too. Many men are taught to "just move on", so that grief often comes out sideways, as anger, numbness, or throwing yourself into work.

If anger is a big part of it, see anger in relationships. You can also try the free Decode Your Emotions tool to put words to what you're feeling right now.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get over a breakup?
There's no fixed timeline. It depends on how long you were together, how it ended, and what else is going on in your life. If weeks or months have passed and it still takes over your days, that's a good reason to talk to someone, not a sign that something is wrong with you.
Is it normal to still think about my ex all the time?
Yes, very. Your mind keeps returning to what mattered and what feels unfinished. In sessions we work on making sense of those thoughts so they gradually lose their grip, instead of trying to force them away.
Can counselling help if I was the one who ended it?
Yes. Ending a relationship can bring guilt, doubt, and grief too. It's still a loss, even when it was your decision, and it deserves space.
Will you help me get my ex back?
That isn't the goal of our work. What we can do is help you understand what happened, look after yourself, and get clear on what you actually want. Whatever you decide after that comes from a steadier place.
Do you also work with divorce or the end of an engagement?
Yes. Divorce, separation, a broken engagement, or a long-distance relationship ending all bring their own kind of loss, along with family and social pressure. We can work through all of it.
Are sessions online or in Bangalore?
Both: in person in Bangalore and online across India. Fees, including a student sliding scale, are on the booking page. See current fees →
