Counselling After Infidelity

Whether you were cheated on or you were the one who cheated, a private space to make sense of it and decide what comes next.

When trust breaks, everything feels uncertain.

Finding out about an affair can turn your life upside down overnight. You might feel rage one moment and numbness the next, want answers and not want to know, love them and hate them at the same time. And if you were the one who cheated, you may be carrying guilt and confusion you can't share with anyone.

I'm Aditya Kumar, a counselling psychologist. I work individually with men on both sides of infidelity, helping you steady yourself, understand what happened, and decide your next step without pressure. This is part of my relationship work with men.

What you might be going through

The images won't stop

Picturing what happened, replaying messages you found, or imagining scenes you never saw.

Searching for answers

Checking phones, asking the same questions again, needing details that only make it hurt more.

Stay or leave?

Going back and forth every day, with family, friends or your own pride pulling you in different directions.

Your confidence is shaken

Comparing yourself, feeling not enough, or questioning your judgement about everything.

If you were the one who cheated

Guilt, shame, fear of being found out, or not understanding why you did it.

Nobody to tell

It feels too private or too humiliating to talk about with anyone you know.

What we work on

  • Getting through the first weeks: sleep, work, and the urge to react
  • Quieting the replay: CBT and grounding tools for intrusive thoughts
  • Making sense of it: what happened in the relationship, and in you
  • Rebuilding self-worth: separating their choice from your value
  • Deciding what's next: staying, leaving, or taking time, on your terms

There's no right way to feel

Men are often expected to respond to betrayal with anger or by "just leaving". In reality, most feel a mix of hurt, humiliation, grief and confusion, and that mix shifts day to day.

If trust has been an issue for a long time, see trust & jealousy. If the relationship has ended, breakup counselling may help, and if anger is taking over, see anger in relationships.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work with men who were cheated on, or men who cheated?
Both. Being betrayed and being the one who betrayed bring very different feelings, but both deserve a space without judgement. We work with where you actually are.
Can a relationship recover after cheating?
Some do, and some don't. Counselling isn't about pushing you either way. It helps you understand what happened, cope with the intensity right now, and make a decision you won't regret later.
Will you judge me if I cheated?
No. My role isn't to judge you; it's to help you understand what led there, take responsibility in a way that's meaningful, and decide what you want to do next.
How do I stop thinking about it all the time?
Intrusive thoughts and images are a very common response to betrayal. We use practical CBT and grounding tools to reduce how much they take over your day, alongside processing the hurt itself.
Is this couples counselling?
No. These are individual sessions with just you. Your partner doesn't need to know or attend.
Are sessions online or in Bangalore?
Both: in person in Bangalore and online across India. Fees, including a student sliding scale, are on the booking page. See current fees →
