Relationship Therapy for Men · Before Marriage

Pre-Marriage Counselling

For men facing family pressure, an arranged-marriage decision, or doubts they don't feel allowed to say out loud.

A big decision deserves your own space.

In many Indian families, marriage isn't just about two people. There are parents, relatives, timelines and expectations, and it can feel like everyone has an opinion except you. Even when you want to get married, the pressure, the speed, or your own uncertainty can make it hard to think clearly.

I'm Aditya Kumar, a counselling psychologist. I work with men before marriage to sort through their feelings, communicate with family, and make choices they feel genuinely good about. This is part of my relationship work with men.

What you might be facing

Family expectations

Parents and relatives asking "when?", setting up meetings, or making you feel time is running out.

Deciding after a few meetings

Being asked to choose a life partner quickly, without feeling you really know them.

Doubts you can't voice

Second thoughts about the match, the timing, or marriage itself, and feeling you're not allowed to say so.

Your own wishes vs. theirs

A partner your family doesn't approve of, or a path for your life that doesn't match their plan.

Big life changes at once

Living together, a new family, maybe moving cities, and the worry about how it will all fit.

Provider pressure

Feeling you need to be settled, earning well or "ready" before you can say yes.

What we work on

  • Getting clear: what you want from marriage, and from a partner
  • Making sense of doubts: anxiety, real concerns, or both
  • Family conversations: saying what you need with honesty and respect
  • Boundaries: handling pressure and guilt without cutting people off
  • Preparing for change: what living with a partner and a new family may bring

Pressure makes it harder to hear yourself

When everyone around you is pushing for a yes, it's hard to tell whether you're excited, nervous, unsure or simply exhausted. A neutral space lets you hear your own answer.

If the worry is more about commitment itself, see relationship anxiety. If you're already married and struggling, see marriage counselling for husbands.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this pre-marriage counselling for couples?
No. These are individual sessions for you. Many men need space to think through marriage on their own before, or instead of, talking it through as a couple.
Is it normal to have doubts before marriage?
Yes, very. Marriage is a huge decision, and doubts are a natural part of taking it seriously. Counselling helps you understand what your doubts are pointing to, so you can decide with a clearer head.
Will you tell me whether to go ahead with an arranged marriage?
No. The decision is yours. I help you get clear on what you want, what worries you, and how to talk to your family about it.
How do I talk to my parents about not being ready?
This is one of the most common things we work on: finding words that are honest and respectful, setting boundaries, and handling the guilt or conflict that can follow.
Can I come if I'm already engaged?
Yes. Whether you're just starting to meet people, engaged, or close to the wedding date, it's a good time to talk things through.
Are sessions online or in Bangalore?
Both: in person in Bangalore and online across India. Fees, including a student sliding scale, are on the booking page. See current fees →

Note: If you are being forced into a marriage, or feel unsafe at home, contact emergency services on 112. For emotional support, Tele-MANAS is free and 24/7 on 14416. Counselling is not a substitute for crisis support.
